Teenage James Bond in Audio Drama: New Bond Actor Revealed

British producer Big Finish will release the audio drama "Young Bond: SilverFin" in October, starring Isaac Rouse as the teenage James Bond; more than 500 people applied for the role. The production is based on Charlie Higson's prequel novel, made with the approval of the estate of Ian Fleming, the creator of James Bond.

SilverFin is Charlie Higson's 2005 novel, the first in the Young Bond series recounting the adventures of a teenage James Bond — long before the adult spy, set during his years at a Scottish boarding school.

One clarification: this is NOT an audiobook but a full-cast, dramatised audio play — actors, sound effects and music, much like a stage play, not a single narrating voice. Big Finish Productions was founded in 1996 and is based in Berkshire, England, and does NOT make programmes for radio: it sells its productions directly to audiences on CD and as downloads, with no radio broadcast involved. This is a substantial, self-contained market in Britain — the company also produces the Doctor Who audio drama universe this way, and has done for decades. The sixteen half-hour episodes — roughly eight hours in total — will be released in October across two box sets.

More than 500 people applied for the lead role, with twelve brought in for auditions. Teenage actor Isaac Rouse won the part; audiences may recognise him from The Crown and from playing Charlie Bucket in Sam Mendes' stage adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
